Semarang, December 6, 2024 – Undergraduate students of the Naval Architecture Study Program at Diponegoro University (UNDIP) successfully held a Design Project Exhibition with the theme “Innovative Designs and Technology to Enhance Efficiency, Sustainability, and Competitiveness in the Maritime Industry.” The event, held at the Ship Engineering parking lot, showcased students’ innovative projects aimed at advancing sustainable maritime technology while fulfilling their design project coursework.

The exhibition featured a variety of innovative designs, including fishing vessels, tourism boats, offshore structures, and shipyards. Each project provided practical solutions to various challenges in the maritime sector, addressing energy efficiency, environmental sustainability, and technological competitiveness. The fishing vessel designs emphasized fuel efficiency and operational simplicity, while the tourism boat designs focused on eco-tourism development with an environmentally friendly approach. Additionally, offshore structure designs offered sustainable solutions for marine resource exploration, and shipyard designs aimed to optimize production and ship maintenance activities.

This event also served as a pivotal moment for students to present their design projects directly to faculty members, industry practitioners, and fellow students. These presentations not only highlighted the students’ technical abilities but also showcased their creativity and innovative thinking relevant to the current needs of the maritime industry.

Among the projects exhibited, one standout design was led by Adhe Bagus Saputra, titled “Design and Development of Mangrove Forest Eco-Tourism Facilities in Tapak Semarang Using Fiberglass Tourism Boats.” This project received the Best Design award after earning the most stickers from exhibition visitors. In his remarks, Adhe Bagus Saputra shared the challenges faced during the project development process.

“Initially, we struggled to define the output and title of our design project. However, as I am from Semarang and have connections in the Tapak Semarang mangrove tourism area, we managed to secure a partner within just one week of starting the project design course,” he explained.

Adhe also noted that while the project timeline was set for four months, the team effectively completed it in just one month due to members’ busy schedules with other coursework. “Despite these challenges, I was committed to completing this project design to its final stage and readying it for exhibition as planned,” he added. The team’s success demonstrated that collaboration, commitment, and creativity can yield high-quality results within a limited timeframe.

The Design Project Exhibition highly commended all participating students for their innovative contributions. This event is expected to serve as an inspirational platform to encourage students to create innovative and applicable works that contribute to the development of the national maritime industry.

This exhibition also underscores UNDIP’s commitment to producing competent graduates ready to meet global challenges in the maritime sector.
