The Department of Naval Architecture, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Diponegoro (Undip), held a Visiting Professor World Class University (WCU) event with the theme “Intelligent Hull Design for Sustainable Shipping.” The online event, held on October 30, 2025, featured an international expert in the field of naval architecture.
The main speaker at this event was Assoc. Prof. Ir. Dr. Eng. Ahmad Fitriadhy, an expert from the Department of Naval Architecture & Ocean Engineering, Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT). In his capacity as a Visiting Professor, he presented the latest material on the utilization of artificial intelligence (AI) technology in the maritime world.

The theme was divided into two main focuses:
- Artificial Intelligence–Driven Hull Form Optimization for Ship Resistance Reduction, discussing AI-based optimization of ship hull forms to reduce resistance.
- Artificial Intelligence–Based Predictive Modeling of Ship Resistance, which explored predictive modeling for estimating ship resistance using AI.
This event resulted from collaboration between the Department of Naval Architecture at Undip and the Department of Naval Architecture & Ocean Engineering, Universiti Malaysia Terengganu. The event was open for participation from undergraduate and postgraduate students, lecturers, researchers, and maritime industry practitioners interested in the latest technological developments in the field.
The Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at Undip stated in his opening remarks that the presence of this world-class professor is expected to enrich academic insights, strengthen international networks, and encourage research innovation, especially in integrating digital technology to create more efficient and environmentally friendly maritime solutions.

“Digital transformation and sustainability issues are two major trends in the global maritime industry. Through this public lecture, we hope to inspire the next generation to master new approaches in ship design that are precise, efficient, and supportive of sustainable development goals,” said Ahmad Fitriadhy in his presentation.
This Visiting Professor WCU event is part of Undip’s commitment as The Excellent Research University to continuously provide global perspectives and foster an academic atmosphere of international quality for all its academic community.
