As part of its World Class University (WCU) initiative, the Department of Naval Architecture, Diponegoro University (UNDIP) successfully held an Online Visiting Professor Program featuring Assoc. Prof. Quang Thang Do from the Department of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering, Nha Trang University, Vietnam.
The program consisted of two online lecture sessions, each focusing on advanced topics related to numerical and structural analysis of ship structures.
The first session, held on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, carried the theme “Applications and Challenges of Finite Element Method in Ultimate Strength Assessment of Ship Structures.” In this session, Assoc. Prof. Do elaborated on the use of the Finite Element Method (FEM) in analyzing the ultimate strength of ship structures, addressing both theoretical approaches and practical challenges in its application across academia and the maritime industry.

The second session, conducted on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, from 1:30 to 3:30 PM (Jakarta Time), was titled “Guidelines for Applying Numerical Simulation in Ultimate Strength of Ship Structures using FEM.” During this lecture, he presented practical guidelines and techniques for conducting numerical simulations using FEM, supported by relevant case studies in ship structural analysis and design.
Both sessions were moderated by Dr. Tuswan, S.T., a faculty member of the Department of Naval Architecture UNDIP who is actively engaged in ship structural research. The lectures received enthusiastic participation from both students and academic staff, who actively exchanged ideas and posed insightful technical questions throughout the sessions.
Through this program, the Department of Naval Architecture continues to demonstrate its strong commitment to fostering an international academic environment and enhancing global collaboration, particularly with partner universities and researchers across Southeast Asia.
